Description
“We must take up efforts to instil values in our children at a young age.” —Amma
Imbibing values enables us to live in harmony — with ourselves, with others, and with the world. The seeds of these values exist in every child’s heart, but they must be protected and nurtured so that these values can unfold and become an integral part of the child’s character.
This practical guidebook presents 16 universal values (such as Kindness, Perseverance, and Gratitude), as well as 16 practical tools (such as The Peace Table, Self-Correcting Works, and Role Modeling) to effectively impart these values to young children. While the setting is a preschool classroom for ages 3–7, parents and teachers of older children will also find plenty of practical tips and inspiration in this valuable resource.
Background: After the successful completion of a 6-week online workshop with over 300 Amrita Vidyalayam teachers in November 2022, we began working on the guidebook Teaching Values to Young Children. The content for the book is inspired by Amma’s teachings and the philosophy of Montessori education. It stems from Adarsa, an American Montessori teacher with over 20 years of experience. Furthermore, we have included invaluable insights and experiences from 27 teachers across 10 Amrita Vidyalayam schools in India, who contributed to this blessed labour of love.
